Advanced Basin Analysis
7th December 2016
Event Navigation
Overview
The key to successful basin analysis is integrating all of the existing data to synthesis a model of the basin. This requires the integration of geological, geochemical and geophysical data from public and private sources. Sometimes data sources are both limited and sparse. Thus one must be prepared to use all the tools available to extrapolate the existing data to develop an understanding that allows a viable assessment of its petroleum potential. One must then take the analysis one step further and visualize, from the existing data, what types of combinations of traps, reservoirs and seals might hold economic accumulations. It is important that in the analysis one answers questions and draws conclusions. An important conclusion is assessing the exploration, development, and economic risk. It is critical that one does not leave decision makers without the tools to make prudent decisions.
Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for professionals involved in basin evaluation, with at least 3-5 years of related experience. Job titles include but are not limited to:
- Exploration & Development Geoscientists
- Geologists
- Geophysicists
- Reservoir & Petroleum Engineers
- Petrophysicists
- E&P Managers
Key Learning Points:
- Detect and define the basin
- Get a thorough understanding of structural elements and influence
- Understand important aspects of sedimentary formations, sequence stratigraphy, and subsurface pressure characteristics
- Appreciate petroleum system components and hydrocarbon preservation
- Evaluate maturation in petroleum geochemistry
- Move from basin scale to prospect scale
- Case histories to help you evaluate variation and learn how properties impact prospectivity
