Fire and Explosion Risk on Oil and Gas Facilities: Fundamentals, Assessment and Incident Investigation
22nd October 2018 - 24th October 2018
Overview
The course is offered in collaboration with Abercus, a company with several years of track-record in the field of technical safety. The course instructors have 15 years experience in this field. This wide-ranging course covers all the underlying concepts of fires and gas explosions, risks, prevention and mitigation. The course examines key statistics and analysis, fire and explosion modelling techniques and lessons from previous accidents. The course also discusses various techniques of accident investigations and how they may be applied. Specific topics on fires and vapour cloud explosions including ignition processes, release and dispersion, fire and explosion mechanisms and thermal and blast loads are covered.
Who Should Attend
- Safety engineers, managers and supervisors
- Personnel involved in the design, operation or modification of an offshore or onshore oil and gas and petrochemical facility
- Accident investigators
- Anyone who would like to develop an understanding of gas explosion and fire safety
Key Learning Objectives
- Understand the basics and important parameters governing vapour cloud explosions (VCEs) and fires
- Understand the chain of events leading to fire and explosion, and the important parameters affecting the gas release and dispersion
- Understand the various preventive measures to reduce the occurrence of accidents
- Understand the various mitigation and control techniques to reduce gas explosion and fire consequences
- Learn the various explosion and fire modelling techniques that may be applied
- Understand the importance of using advance 3D modelling for fire and gas explosion analyses
